Victor Martinez and Casey Kotchman

Some big deals for the Sox at the deadline today. I have mixed feelings about them. Kotchman deal does not really matter, the Red Sox felt he was better suited for the bench than LaRoche. The Victor Martinez deal could either be really good or really bad. He brings us a guy who can play 1st, catcher, and DH, which will allow for a lot of different looks on a day-to-day basis. However, he does not really come in as an everyday player. I just do not feel like this was a big enough splash for the Sox, I think it shows a lack of confidence in our starting lineup, but without feeling the need to let someone go. I also feel like Masterson is a huge loss in the bullpen. He is an excellent spot starter and he can pitch in relief for multiple innings. O well, it should all work out in the end.

Steroids!

The New York Times, parent of the Boston Globe, is reporting that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were 2 of the 100 players who tested positive for steroids in 2003. Now, they are debating whether the Red Sox's championships are tainted. This is just another example of of ESPN hating on Boston sports. Ignore ESPN's reporting, everyone was on steroids in 2003, including numerous Yankees, and although they have not won in the new century, the steroid era started long before 2003.

In my opinion, we should all wait to hear what Ortiz has to say, and the MLB needs to release the 2003 tests and stop keeping them confidential, because clearly they are not confidential.

bad loss yesterday

So on Jim Rice day at Fenway, the Red Sox blow a clear cut victory over the Oakland A's. The Red Sox need to turn it around and start winning, or make a huge deadline move (and I dont think another pitcher is the answer). Hopefully, no matter what happens at the end of the week, the Red Sox calm down and play ball the way they are suppose to.

Not looking good....

After 5 games of suffering, the Red Sox took a series with the Orioles 2 games to 1, but the Yankees are still winning and are 2.5 games up. Hopefully, the Red Sox can dominate Oakland this week and the Yankees can suffer a little bit, but it is not looking good. Red Sox need to find their bats and stop relying on pitching.

Losing Streak Over!

The Red Sox finally ended the hurt last night at Fenway, beating the Orioles 3-1. The offense is still struggling, however, Brad Penny had a solid start and Papelbon was able to strike out the final two batters for the save. Hopefully, The Red Sox pitching can facilitate a rebound off the worst losing streak of the season. Maybe some bats can wake up too.
